Pets and the Heat is a very popular topic during the summer months. Alot of pet lovers if they have a website or you tube account. Do some videos or an article about how to beat the heat. I recently bought the 2011 issue of Critters USA. They also had an article on this. There is one thing I see over and over and over again. They almost always recommend you bring your pet indoors and not let them roam outdoors. But what about us unfortunate few who do not have air conditioning. I absolutely hate that when they assume we are all rich and have central air conditioners, frankly I'm not rich. I don't have central air I have a A/C but it's a box in the window. In an area in my house where my pets cannot stay. So how do we cool our pets without the very envied A/C. I'll give you a few tips:
- Mist your pet with a plastic water spray bottle. (Buy a new clean empty one) You must never ever use an empty bottle where cleaner was stored. It is absolutely toxic to pets. So use your noodle and use an empty store bought spray bottle ( you can find these at most dollar stores)
- Try using a plastic foot stool with openings in it, instead of a hidey house. This will provide your pet with ventilation and safety without containing their body heat.
-Try using a cold granite tile or some other type cool glass plate. This way they can sit on it while not freezing.
-Try freezing a bottle of water then wrapping it in a towel and place it in the pet's cage. Be sure to replace when it starts to melt.
I tried all of these and I find them very affective. So have fun and stay cool !!!

*Update* -Try using a fan, and a bowl of ice. Place the fan in front of your pets (guinea pig, rabbit's etc.) cage. Use a stool or chair or a table and place the bowl of ice in front of the fan, Turn the fan on... and Taadaa you have an instant air conditioner.
